Former County Attorney Rick Romley Endorses Mayor Scott Smith

PHOENIX—Mayor Scott Smith, Republican candidate for Arizona Governor, announced the endorsement of former Maricopa County Attorney Rick Romley, adding another prominent elected official to Mayor Smith's coalition of supporters. Romley, a Purple Heart recipient and widely respected prosecutor for his tough stances on crime, hailed Mayor Smith's work on public safety in Mesa.

"We need a Governor who makes safe neighborhoods and public safety a priority and I know Mayor Scott Smith will do that," stated Romley. About Mayor Scott Smith:

Mayor Scott Smith is a fourth-generation Arizonan who has distinguished himself in both Arizona's private and public sectors. Twice elected as mayor of Mesa, the 3rd largest city in Arizona and 38th largest city in America, he also served as President of the United States Conference of Mayors. He was the first Arizona mayor to ascend to that position.

Prior to his career in public service, Smith ran a local home-building company. The business was small and struggling financially when Smith took over, and under his leadership, the company became one of Arizona's largest real estate and development companies, with over 350 employees and $200 million a year in annual sales.

In 2008, Smith was elected Mayor of Mesa, defeating two incumbent members of the city council. He was unopposed in his re-election to a second term in 2012.

When the city of Mesa was faced with a $62 million budget gap, Mayor Smith oversaw the largest reorganization of city government in Mesa's history, slimming the city workforce by 10 percent and finding new efficiencies that enabled the city to do more with less. Mesa overcame the impact of the recession with a balanced budget every year Smith was Mayor, while raising service levels. One measure of success: today, major crime in Mesa is at a 40--ear low and FBI statistics show Mesa is the third-safest big city in America.

Mayor Smith also led a resurgence in economic development in a city long considered to be an underachiever. The city was named the most business friendly city in Arizona after committing to a success-driven, business-first culture referred to as 'Facilitate, Don't Regulate.' Billions of dollars in new investment were brought to Mesa from companies such as Apple, Able Engineering and Banner Health, and thousands of high quality jobs were saved and created. Mayor Smith also worked to accelerate the construction of State Route 24, a road that provides important freeway access to Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport. By building this much-needed road during the recession, the city saved taxpayers nearly $100 million and opened up a vital area in the region for economic development.

Mayor Scott Smith was born and grew up in Tucson and moved to Mesa in his youth. He and his wife Kim have been married over 35 years and have three children and five grandchildren.

Smith earned a degree in Accounting from Brigham Young University, and MBA and Juris Doctor degrees from Arizona State University.

I Need Your Help To Fight More Negative Campaigning! Kathy Littlefield Candiate Scottsdale City Council

I must be doing well in the polls because my opponents sent out a dark-money hit-piece mailer this week, attacking me for getting the highly desired and sought after endorsement of the Police Officers of Scottsdale Association!

To put it bluntly, the mailer is a pack of lies. Unlike Phoenix, Scottsdale recognizes no employee unions and has no union contracts, no collective bargaining and no pension spiking.

I am proud to be endorsed by our Scottsdale Police Officers and Firefighters. Both support numerous local Scottsdale charities such as POSA's Shop With A Cop events for underprivileged children and the Scottsdale Firefighter Charities. Most importantly, Scottsdale Police Officers and Firefighters know I stand with you, the residents of Scottsdale, and will vote to give them the critical resources they need to keep you safe.

I need your help if I am to win this election and be Your Voice On Council. First and foremost I need your vote – if you have not already done so, please mark your early ballot for me, or vote for me at the polls on August 26th.

When I fought the third-of-a-billion-dollar property tax increase last fall, my PAC was outspent by the special interests 52 to 1! I expect those same special interests are being just as generous to my opponents in this campaign!
