Here's the truth-Linda Milhaven Scottsdale City Council Candidate

About those yellow and black signs...

As a young girl, I was taught that “I am the friends I keep”.  As I get older, I learn that I am also defined by the people who don’t agree with me.

You may have seen the yellow and black signs posted around town.  Some are confused by these signs.  Let me clarify.  I did not put up these signs.  Although these signs are meant to persuade you not to vote for me, I could not be more proud.  Strong leaders take a clear stand.  Strong leaders get things done. Strong leaders draw fire.  I must be effective and making a difference for these folks to invest so much money to campaign against me.

Yes.  I approved some multi-family residential developments in the southern part of our community.  These units are drawing top dollar rents.   People are moving to our downtown and creating a vibrancy and sense of place that makes downtown special.  Home values in south Scottsdale are appreciating almost twice as much as the rest of our City.  Increasingly, businesses are looking to locate in downtown Scottsdale.  Apartments are attracting people downtown and contribute to the new found vibrancy of downtown.

Yes.  I approved several restaurant and bar licenses.  Old tired buildings in our downtown are being torn down and new high end restaurants are being built in their place.  Tourists and residents are drawn to this area.  The new establishments need liquor licenses to operate and I support them. Some multi-family residential is being built in the entertainment district turning a tired area of modest office buildings into a vibrant, downtown, walkable neighborhood.

Yes.  I support improving our transportation system and creating better connections to the regional transportation system.  In the short run, this means better bus and trolley service.  Might this mean light rail?  Maybe.  If we want light rail, we are 20 years away and have much work to do.   We will need a vote of the people.  We will need to obtain federal and county money.  This is a big challenge that will take community support and a lot of time. Ultimately it will be up to the residents and voters in Scottsdale to decide, not your city council.  Any argument to the contrary is simply unrealistic.

No.  I have not raised your taxes.  During my time on the City Council, we have not raised your taxes.  In fact, your property taxes were raised for 16 straight years during one of the greatest economic boom times of our generation long before I ever joined the council.  When times got tough, I did not raise your taxes.

Yes.  I am the friends I keep . . . and I am proud to draw the disapproval of those who prefer to do nothing.  I prefer to look to the future with optimism. Create a vision and work toward making that vision a reality.  I hope that you will allow me to continue to work on your behalf.  Vote Linda Milhaven on Tuesday, August 26th.
Best,

Linda Milhaven

Vote for my husband, Frank Riggs!

Frank Riggs for Governor
With less than 24 hours until polls open, I wanted to share a few thoughts about my husband, and his campaign to be the next Govenrnor of Arizona.

Frank has been a wonderful husband during our 34-year marriage and is a devoted father and grandfather to our three adult children and their spouses...and our three precious grandchildren. I know I'm a bit biased, but in the crowded race for the Republican gubernatorial nomination, he's the most experienced and best qualified candidate, and the clear conservative choice. He's truly ready to lead our state...he isn't someone trying to buy an election or a career politician.

Frank served in the Army and is the only veteran running for Governor. He was a police officer and deputy sheriff (I was a police officer, too, and that's how we met!). He was also a school board president and the CEO of the largest nonprofit dedicated to helping public charter schools with their financing and facility needs. Frank has the ideal background and preparation for state government's main responsibilities of public safety, including securing our border, and K-12 education. He's promised to stop the "Obamanization" of Arizona by repealing Common Core on Day One and rolling back the unsustainable expansion of Medicaid under Obamacare, which will take $1 trillion from Medicare over the next decade.

Frank is also a former U.S. Congressman who rooted out corruption in Washington. His voting record earned him the highest ratings of National Right to Life and the NRA...and accolades from other national organizations supporting school choice, private property rights, taxpayers, small business and free enterprise. I know, because I was with him every step of the way.

Frank is the leader we need here and now. He's demonstrated the courageous leadership ability and integrity we want in our next governor! You can trust him to be a champion of our conservative values and state rights. We can take back our state and make it a shining example of constitutionally limited government where personal freedom and equal opportunity flourish. I hope you'll vote for my husband Frank Riggs...take it from me, he's the real deal.

Thank You,

Cathy Riggs

Phoenix - Jeff DeWit, CEO/Investment Professional and candidate for Arizona State Treasurer, announced today that Tom Jenney has endorsed his candidacy.

“Jeff DeWit is for smaller government, free markets, and low taxes.  He is the only Treasurer candidate who opposes the Obamacare Medicaid Expansion.  I believe Jeff DeWit will be a prudent custodian of taxpayer money, and I endorse him as the best choice for Arizona State Treasurer,” said Jenney.

“There is no one in Arizona more tirelessly fighting to protect hard-working taxpayers from government overreach, burdensome regulations, and over-taxation,” said DeWit.  “Tom Jenney is revered amongst Conservatives and the Grassroots for his efforts and successes, and I am deeply honored to have Tom’s endorsement and support of my campaign.”

Pro-Business Group Endorses Jeff DeWit for State Treasurer

HOME BUILDERS ASSOCIATION OF CENTRAL ARIZONA ENDORSES JEFF DEWIT FOR STATE TREASURER
I'm honored to have the endorsement of the Home Builders Association of Central Arizona (HBACA) which has been representing residential building professionals, suppliers, contractors, and affiliated industry professionals throughout the Valley for over 60 years. Today the HBACA represents more than 500 companies with thousands of employees, and serves as the "Voice of the Residential Construction Industry."

"As I say frequently, Arizona needs leaders who will promote a thriving business community, as I will.  The path to success for our State involves growing our economy and bringing in jobs, and I will be very supportive of our future Governor in making that happen," said DeWit.

Tobin: Dedicated to Service

We are only a couple of days away from Primary Day, when you will have a chance to determine who the most qualified Republican is to defeat Barack Obama’s ally, Ann Kirkpatrick, in November.

Andy has been all across the district, talking to voters and fighting for every vote because he knows the stakes of this election are too high not to take each and every voter's concerns seriously.

As you've seen over the course of our campaign, the broad coalition of people and organizations know Andy Tobin means business, and they know that he is ONLY conservative candidate who will defeat Ann Kirkpatrick.

Governor Mitt Romney, the US Chamber of Commerce and over three dozen local elected officials - including Arizona Right to Life - Andy has put together a team that can win in November and bring real, conservative change to Washington.

Andy has always been committed to helping his fellow citizens--checkout his “Lifetime of Service” video to see how he has given back throughout the years.

You’ll see some clips from Andy’s time as the President of the United States Jaycees, where he helped comedian Jerry Lewis raise money for his telethon to fight MDA; and the time President Reagan welcomed him to Washington to help fight for a balanced budget.

In these last few days, we call on you as an Arizona citizen, we need to your help to win this Republican Primary - make NO mistake in just how important your vote is!  Andy has worked to earn your vote as the only battle tested conservative in this race.

From Oro Valley to Show Low and Maricopa to the Navajo Nation, we have been on the trail, talking to voters and working hard for every single vote. That’s how we will win on Tuesday and how we will win in November.

We need your help to turn the tide in Washington!

PRESS RELEASE: Hallman Campaign Demands DeWit Retract Accusations About Signs

NOTE: After receiving the letter referenced in this release, the DeWit campaign pulled the video and posts with the accusations against our campaign from their web site and YouTube site. However, DeWit has yet to retract his false statements.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Hallman Campaign Demands DeWit Retract Accusations About Signs, Remove Doctored Video From Internet; Possible Litigation For Defamation/Libel

PHOENIX, Arizona (August 22, 2014) — Republican State Treasurer Candidate Hugh Hallman’s campaign today sent a letter to candidate Jeff DeWit demanding he retract false, defamatory and libelous accusations about Hallman concerning campaign road signs.

The letter demanded that DeWit also remove a doctored video from the internet purporting to show Hallman putting up a road sign in front of one of DeWit’s signs, when Hallman was actually taking down a sign instead in response to an “anonymous” complaint — a clear “gotcha” technique designed to defame Hallman and his campaign for State Treasurer.

The text of the letter sent by Hallman’s attorney to DeWit’s attorney is as follows:

Recently Jeff DeWit posted on his website a statement accusing Hugh Hallman personally of committing a crime, which not only is false, it constitutes defamation and libel per se.  Further, Mr. DeWit later posted a video that concludes in an attempt to show Mr. Hallman erecting one of his campaign’s signs to block one of Mr. DeWit’s campaign signs.  That “conclusion” is false.

As has now been reported, Mr. Hallman’s campaign received an anonymous phone call complaining about one of Mr. Hallman’s signs blocking the sign of “another” Treasurer candidate.  Mr. Hallman heard the message in the presence of three campaign volunteers who will testify to these facts.  Mr. Hallman concluded that the continuous interference with his campaign signs had become significant enough that he would investigate this instance personally.  He was joined by one of the campaign volunteers.

When Mr. Hallman and the volunteer arrived at the noted location, they examined the situation, took pictures of the signs and then proceeded to remove Mr. Hallman’s campaign sign to eliminate any issue and despite that it appeared to Mr. Hallman that his sign clearly had been manipulated by a third party.

It should not have come as a surprise that one or more individuals associated with Mr. DeWit’s campaign were discretely “present” to video tape and photograph Mr. Hallman and the volunteer when they arrived at the location to address the anonymous complaint.  It also is no surprise given prior misstatements by Mr. DeWit about Mr. Hallman that Mr. DeWit’s campaign has created and released a video that has been manipulated to make it appear that Mr. Hallman was erecting rather than removing the sign in question.

There appears to be significant effort exerted by Mr. DeWit’s campaign to capture and then doctor the video and photographs created by the DeWit campaign.  That the manipulated video created a false impression and conclusion is demonstrated by, among other things, the “tease” aired by Channel 3 news on August 21 at 6:00 p.m.  The effort and coordination that clearly took place by Mr. DeWit’s campaign to create this false impression demonstrates that it was done knowingly and with malice.  This, too, amounts to libel and, given the number of parties likely involved, it amounts to conspiracy to commit defamation and/or aiding and abetting defamation.

Accordingly, please immediately cause Mr. DeWit to retract his statement, remove the video from the web, and issue an apology for making the false statements claiming Mr. Hallman personally has engaged in criminal activity.

Furthermore, please consider this a demand that any and all documents and communications of any kind among Mr. DeWit, members of his campaign and any third party be preserved in anticipation of litigation on this matter.  You have an obligation to see to it that any and all evidence regarding this matter, as well as any and all evidence reasonably calculated to lead to evidence in this matter, be preserved.  Such items include, but are not limited to, emails, texts, phone call logs, voice mail messages and any other document or communication, whether in paper or electronic format.

We look forward to Mr. DeWit’s retraction immediately.

This is not the first time Hallman’s opponents in a campaign have resorted to dirty and questionable tactics. When Hallman ran for Mayor of Tempe in 2004, an opponent improperly gained access to confidential information in city records — including Hallman’s Social Security number and bank account information — as part of an effort to defame Hallman. The tactic backfired, and Hallman won election by a comfortable margin.
