AZ AG Mark Brnovich announces sentencing of Tucson woman practicing medicine without a license

AG Mark Brnovich announces sentencing of Tucson woman practicing medicine without a license
Tucson, AZ – Today, Ilda M. Garcia, of Tucson was sentenced to 7 years in prison for her role in performing dangerous surgical procedures such as liposuction and medical injections without a medical license. Garcia did not have any medical training, education, or licensing.
“The defendant will have 7 years behind bars to think about the botched medical procedures she’s responsible for,” said Attorney General Mark Brnovich. “She victimized women and violated the public’s trust."
Garcia was originally arrested along with Gustavo Felix Nunez after a 3-month investigation by the DEA’s Tactical Diversion Squad in August 2013. Garcia and Nunez allegedly told patients they were medical professionals authorized to perform liposuction surgeries and other cosmetic procedures. Investigators allege Nunez was in charge of operations and Garcia was his assistant.
In July 2015, Garcia pled guilty to 1 count of practicing medicine without a license, 1 count of fraudulent schemes and artifices, and 1 count of aggravated assault causing serious physical injury. During one liposuction procedure, a victim had a drug interaction, began seizing, and had difficulty breathing. Garcia failed to administer emergency aid, call 911, or transport the victim to the hospital for more than 45-minutes.The victim had a stroke and was in a coma for more than 2-months before she woke up.
Co-defendant Nunez is scheduled for trial early next year.

AZ Treasurer Jeff DeWit Update of First Six Months
First Six Months as State Treasurer of Arizona Update
It has been an honor to serve Arizona as State Treasurer. I wanted to take a few minutes and thank everyone for their continued support. It is unbelievable how much my life has changed as I went from an everyday father working in the financial world to being elected as Arizona State Treasurer. The road here was not easy, but very worth it as I have been able to put my 23 years of financial experience to use in serving our community. I wanted to make sure you all know how grateful I am for your votes and support.

I now oversee $31 Billion in inflows and outflows, and over $13 Billion in state investments including being the guardian of the Arizona Permanent Land Endowment Trust Fund which was established to provide money forever for the education of Arizona's children, and our children's children. Those who know me know that I will always stand up for what is right, regardless of politics or pressure. My job is to protect Arizona's financial future, and by doing my job well I hope I can contribute to our great state being able to bring in jobs and have a thriving economy.

AZGOP Needs Volunteers to Clean UP Yard
AZGOP wants you to do yard work for PANCAKES.
Fellow Republicans,
We need help with some early-morning landscaping at the 24th St headquarters this Saturday (Aug 1). We've already painted the building and put up new signage but have a lot of gravel to spread and some holes to dig for new plants. We'll get started at 6 am and have some pancakes when we're done. We'll have extra yard tools but if you have a rake or shovel please bring them. See attached flyer.
