Maricopa County Supervisor Steve Chucri Announces Re-Election Campaign

MESA (September 15) – Steve Chucri, chairman of the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors, today filed for re-election to a second term in District 2. Throughout his first term, Chucri has kept the commitments he made on the campaign trail, including improving government communication, fiscal reforms and applying best-in-class business principles to government, as well as providing conservative leadership and transparency. He has produced real results by cutting through government bureaucracy and red tape.

“Over my first term, I’ve applied private-sector principles and conservative leadership to Maricopa County and we’ve seen success and benefits for the taxpayer,” Chucri said. “I’ve maintained open lines of communication – whether with constituents, the business community or other municipal entities – and provided proactive and taxpayer-centered services that saved dollars and time. I look forward to getting back on the campaign trail to hear more ideas about how I can better serve Maricopa County residents in my next term.”

Some of Chucri’s first-term accomplishments include:
  • Process improvements at all departments to enhance the customer service experience at the county,  including: reducing a 43-page dust permit application to seven pages, and putting it online for easier accessibility; and streamlining zoning regulations that support private property rights.
  • Improved communication between governments that activated partnerships for flood control and transportation projects, STEM programs at libraries, enhancements to Arizona 211 program and the Marc Center.
  • Implemented county-level personnel reform, reduced employee merit protections and eliminated outdated policies.
  • Made board meetings available online.
  • Focused county budgets to reflect needs, not wants.
“My record of service will serve as the foundation for my next term,” Chucri said. “I’ve seen firsthand the need for fresh, business-minded perspectives in local government, and there’s so much more we can, and will, do to make sure Maricopa County continues to be one of the best run counties in the country.”

About Steve Chucri:
Steve Chucri is a native Arizonan who was born and raised in Mesa, but his family’s Arizona roots started in the mining town of Morenci. His family taught him the values of faith and trust, essential elements to running an honest and transparent business. In addition to serving on the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors, he is also President and CEO of the Arizona Restaurant Association, the key voice for the $11.5 billion restaurant industry in Arizona. Representing restaurants on a multitude of industry issues while maintaining small business success has proven to be one of his top strengths. Chucri resides in Paradise Valley with his wife of 16 years, Christine, and their two young sons.

Dr Kelli Ward Endorsed by Jim Gilchrist, President of the Minuteman Project, for US Senate

I’m proud to announce my latest endorsement: Jim Gilchrist, President of the Minuteman Project, has endorsed my campaign for U.S. Senate!

From the endorsement, “Arizona state senator Dr. Kelli Ward, seeking to replace current U. S. Senator John McCain, is determined to bring our nation back under the rule of law insofar as U. S. immigration laws are concerned.”

This is great news for patriotic Arizonans who support SECURE borders, oppose amnesty, and want to STOP illegal immigration. That's what the patriots at the Minuteman Project have been doing for over a decade, and that's what I'll do in the U.S. Senate.

For 30 years, John McCain worked with the radical left to push for amnesty and allowed open borders. It's time for that to change--and it starts with you and I.

I need your endorsement to defeat entrenched career politician John McCain. We need to work together to stop the flow of millions of illegals into our country.

Endorse my campaign with a contribution of $5 – help me fight for secure borders and stop Obama’s amnesty!
Sincerely,

Dr. Kelli Ward

P.S. – You can read my Minuteman Project endorsement at their website.

AZ AG Mark Brnovich announces sentencing of Tucson woman practicing medicine without a license

For Immediate Release

AG Mark Brnovich announces sentencing of Tucson woman practicing medicine without a license
Tucson, AZ – Today, Ilda M. Garcia, of Tucson was sentenced to 7 years in prison for her role in performing dangerous surgical procedures such as liposuction and medical injections without a medical license. Garcia did not have any medical training, education, or licensing.

“The defendant will have 7 years behind bars to think about the botched medical procedures she’s responsible for,” said Attorney General Mark Brnovich. “She victimized women and violated the public’s trust."

Garcia was originally arrested along with Gustavo Felix Nunez after a 3-month investigation by the DEA’s Tactical Diversion Squad in August 2013. Garcia and Nunez allegedly told patients they were medical professionals authorized to perform liposuction surgeries and other cosmetic procedures. Investigators allege Nunez was in charge of operations and Garcia was his assistant.

In July 2015, Garcia pled guilty to 1 count of practicing medicine without a license, 1 count of fraudulent schemes and artifices, and 1 count of aggravated assault causing serious physical injury. During one liposuction procedure, a victim had a drug interaction, began seizing, and had difficulty breathing. Garcia failed to administer emergency aid, call 911, or transport the victim to the hospital for more than 45-minutes.The victim had a stroke and was in a coma for more than 2-months before she woke up.

Co-defendant Nunez is scheduled for trial early next year.

Arizona Assistant Attorneys General Jordan E. Emerson prosecuted this case. For more information, contact Mia Garcia (602) 399-5895 or Mia.Garcia@azag.gov
