For years I
have said that we have one of the very best fire departments and group of
firefighters in the country. We recently received great news that proves
it.
Every 10 years the Insurance Services Organization (ISO) rates cities on the level of protection provided to citizens by their fire services organizations. During the past decade, our city has improved from a Class 3 to a Class 2 rating. Of the nearly 49,000 communities across the country that are rated by the ISO, only 2% have achieved this prestigious classification.
For a fire department that is only 10 years old, I believe that’s a terrific accomplishment and something in which we can all take pride.
Even more important is that our city’s new safety classification means a majority of our business, commercial and residential property owners are expected to enjoy savings on their insurance rates.
I hope you will join me in thanking Fire Chief Tom Shannon, Deputy Chief/Fire Marshal Jim Ford, President of the Scottsdale Firefighters Association Sasha Weller and all Scottsdale Firefighters for the work they do for us. Their teamwork truly pays off for the citizens of Scottsdale.
The collaboration between the men and women who provide us with our fire and emergency services 24 hours a day, 365 days a year is only one of the many examples of how city employees are delivering the top-notch services that help make Scottsdale so special.
They’re putting Scottsdale first!
