Taxpayer Superhero Award-AZ Senator Jeff Flake

Standing up against pork, earmarks, and excessive government spending in Congress can sometimes be lonely. Nearly any special interest you can think of has a lobbyist or association in D.C. advocating for more money. Taxpayers, on the other hand, only have a handful of organizations looking out for their interests. Chief among them is Citizens Against Government Waste (CAGW).

Citizens Against Government Waste has been fighting against pork for 30 years. They take aim at big spenders in Congress, whether they are Republicans or Democrats. Profligate members of both parties dread the annual release of CAGW's Pig Book, where they highlight some of the worst and most wasteful spending in government.

But Citizens Against Government Waste doesn't just shame the big spenders in Congress - they also compile annual ratings to honor members of Congress who have stood up against wasteful government spending. I'm proud to have once again earned a 100% rating from CAGW, receiving their coveted "Taxpayer Superhero" award.

Here's what CAGW President Tom Schatz had to say: "Senator Flake has demonstrated a commitment to the taxpayers that is unprecedented in the 25 years that the Council for Citizens Against Government Waste has issued its annual congressional ratings. His perfect score in the House, followed by the same score in the Senate is an amazing achievement. From the first time that he offered an amendment on the floor of the House to eliminate an earmark to his impeccable voting record in 2013 in the Senate to cut spending and prevent tax increases, Senator Flake has led the battle against the big spenders and fought to protect every American's fiscal interests. On behalf of the Council for Citizens Against Government Waste's 1.3 million members and supporters, especially the 51,800 in Arizona, I offer him my heartiest congratulations."

It's great to receive CAGW's recognition, but it's even better to represent Arizona taxpayers' interests in the Senate. Your support and trust makes it easy to stand up to the big spenders and put our country's fiscal future ahead of special interests. Thank you, and please keep up the pressure on D.C.

Request for help in walking the neighborhoods

I am requesting help with the following: Web Site

1.       PC's, from each of precincts to request yard sign to be placed throughout their precincts.
2.       Volunteers (PC's, friends, and relatives) to walk neighborhoods I have walking list for each of the precincts. The lists come 40 addresses for each, when the volunteer completes one list I will assign another list of 40:
a.       Printouts that I can email or deliver, I will need their email address or physical address if they want me to deliver it.
b.      Smart phone I have an app that you can download but I will need their cell phone number
3.       I need 4 volunteers to help with placing street signs in Scottsdale and Midtown, thanks to Don Newton and Tristan most of the streets signs are already up on the west side of the district.

The campaign is going  Great Guns but we need to keep up the momentum. I have been attending neighborhood meetings, town hall's, and anywhere in the district where I can find a group of people to talk with. Last week I even had four members of our district request signs and declared they were Democrats but they like what they are hearing and believe in my message, they feel I have a plan and not blowing campaign rhetoric. So lets get those signs out and pound the pavement  and win this district back.  My phone number is 602 418-1917 and email is cortezld24@cox.net.

Thanks for everyone's help in advance together we can do this after all we are all proud Arizonians.

Regards,
Lei Lani S. Cortez

AZ Rep David Schweikert: Mr. President: Our Borders Need Security

Arizona's Rep David Schweikert letter to President Obama
Washington, D.C.June 17, 2014—Rep. David Schweikert (R-AZ) wrote a letter to the President, Tuesday, calling for the deployment of the National Guard to southwest border entrances. The release of this letter follows the overwhelming surge of unaccompanied minors crossing the southwest border without papers, resources, and guardians.
“Thanks to your Administration’s failure to enforce United States immigration law, our Customs and Border Patrol (CBP) agents are being overwhelmed by the current surge in illegal immigration. The drastic increase and persistently high number of Unaccompanied Alien Children (UAC) being apprehended and detained by agents along our border is causing resources to be diverted away from other Department of Homeland Security (DHS) missions, stretching the CBP thin, and causing a potentially devastating impact on our national security,” reads the letter.
“The sheer scale of illegal immigration is compromising DHS capabilities to address other transnational criminal activities such as human and drug trafficking. There is no longer time to wait and see. Action must be immediately taken. Refusal to do so will have dire consequences to our national security,” the letter continues.
BACKGROUND: In recent weeks, the southwest borders of Arizona and Texas have seen record numbers of Unaccompanied Alien Children (UAC) cross the border. Cramped and overcrowded shelters have led to a shortage in housing resources, causing the Customs and Border Control (CBP) and the Department of Homeland Security (DHC) to find alternative housing locations for children and other migrants. In the last two weeks alone, over 1,000 unaccompanied minors were sent to Arizona’s Nogales facility from Texas because of overcrowding.
The UAC program is responsible for medical care, temporary housing, and counseling services. Last year, nearly 25,000 minors entered into the United States without any guardianship. As many as 80,000 more children are estimated to cross the border without family or guardianship by the end of this fiscal year.

AZ Rep. David Schweikert Announces Southwest Border Protection Act of 2014

Home
Washington, D.C., June 17, 2014 -- Rep. David Schweikert (R-AZ) released a statement following the introduction of the Southwest Border Protection Act of 2014 Tuesday:
“The drastic increase of Unaccompanied Alien Children (UAC) being apprehended and detained by federal agents along our southwestern border is causing resources to be diverted away from other Department of Homeland Security (DHS) missions,” said Schweikert. “This diversion is stretching the Customs and Border Protection (CBP) thin and causing a troubling impact on our national security. That is unacceptable.”
“The Southwest Border Protection Act of 2014 would assist in refocusing our border security programs and secure DHS and CBP’s focus on illegal smuggling of drugs, individuals, and other transnational criminal activities, said Schweikert.”
The Southwest Border Protection Act calls for the deployment of at least 10,000 members of the U.S. National Guard at the request of any Governor of a State that shares a portion of the international border between the U.S. and Mexico. Guardsmen and women would serve as support for the U.S. Customs and Border Protection operations, and remain in place until we have obtained control of our southern border.
###
Congressman David Schweikert sent  the President a letter Tuesday morning calling for the National Guard’s deployment to assist the Department of Homeland Security and U.S. Customs and Border Protection management of border security. Today’s letter and bill come as a result of record numbers of unaccompanied alien children crossing the U.S.-Mexico border.
