Arizona's Electronic candidate nomination system receives national attention

News from Michele Reagan
Arizona Secretary of State
(602) 542-4285

Ash Center at Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government recognizes E-Qual system

Phoenix – Arizona’s electronic petition gathering program, E-Qual was recently recognized by the Government Innovators Network at Harvard University for its excellence and creativity in the public sector.  The online application allows statewide and legislative candidates the ability to collect up to 50 percent of their petition signatures and $5 qualifying contributions online.

Launched by former Secretary of State Ken Bennett, the program permits the collection of nominating petition signatures and Clean Elections qualifying contributions in a secure online environment.  After a voter's identity is authenticated, E-Qual matches the voter with the candidates for which the voter is eligible to sign a nominating petition or make a $5 contribution.

"Since the implementation of the program, candidates and voters have found E-Qual convenient, efficient and secure," said Michele Reagan, current secretary of state.  "I applaud Ken for his work to modernize so many of our election processes.  I’m proud our administration is building on the success he had throughout his tenure as secretary.”

The Government Innovators Network was developed by the Ash Center for Democratic Governance and Innovation at the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University.

According to the Government Innovators Network, “E-Qual allows convenient and greater participation from both voters and candidates while providing a more accurate and reliable method of collecting signatures and $5 qualifying contributions.”

The Government Innovators Network is a marketplace of ideas and examples of government innovation for policymakers, policy advisors, and practitioners. The Ash Center fosters excellence in government around the world in order to generate and strengthen democracy.

AZ Congressman Matt Salmon I wanted to wish you and your family a very Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays.

As 2015 comes to a close, I wanted to wish you and your family a very Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays.

Each year at this time I reflect on the many things I am thankful for in my life. One of those is your friendship. I truly could not do this job without your tremendous support.

As you celebrate the holiday season, please remember those in uniform serving our nation overseas who are unable to spend the holidays with their families and loved ones.

I pray that 2016 will be a blessed year for you and your family, and for our great nation.

Nancy and I wish you the most joyful, peaceful holiday season, and we look forward to seeing you in the new year.

God bless,

Matt Salmon signature

AZ-Judge Gerlach dismisses lawsuit against Former Maricopa County Republican Chair A. J. La Faro

Maricopa County Superior Court Judge Douglas Gerlach has issued a Final Judgment dismissing a civil lawsuit filed by Benjamin Marin and Citizens for a Better Arizona against A. J. La Faro, Immediate Past Chairman of the Maricopa County Republican Committee.

Judge Gerlach indicated in his ruling that "No purpose is to be served by prolonging this litigation and submitting the case to a jury".  Judge Gerlach said "La Faro is granted summary judgment in his favor against plaintiff Benjamin Marin. The claims asserted by Marin against La Faro are dismissed".  Judge Gerlach went on to say "La Faro is granted summary judgment in his favor and against plaintiff Citizens for a Better Arizona.  Nothing submitted in opposition to La Faro's motion represented an attempt on Citizen's behalf to avoid summary judgment.  The claims asserted by Citizens for a Better Arizona against La Faro are dismissed".

When notified of the Court's decision, La Faro said "I'm glad to hear that justice has prevailed and this frivolous lawsuit that had no basis or merit has been dismissed".  La Faro was overheard saying "I am very fortunate having Dennis Wilenchik and his fantastic legal team representing me.  Wilenchik & Bartness are recognized leaders in Arizona civil litigation and now I know why".

Holiday Greetings from AZ Congressman Trent Franks

Trent Franks for Congress

Since the first Thanksgiving established by President Washington, Americans have always used this time of year to pause with family and friends, even in the midst of disappointment, trials and challenges, and give thanks for the many blessings that we have – for that is what truly defines us as a nation and who we are as a people.
Pausing and reflecting on my time since first running for and now serving in Congress, I am thankful for the many people that I have met and am now blessed to call friend.
As 2015 comes to a close and as we continue to celebrate the holiday season, may we remind ourselves how truly blessed we are to live in America, where religious freedom is constitutionally guaranteed.
We celebrate safely in the land of the free and are endlessly grateful for all the brave sacrifices of our honorable servicemen and women whom protect and safeguard our fundamental freedoms.
The holiday season, a time full of miracles, calls to mind our miracle as a nation.  Founding Father Daniel Webster articulated the American story ever so eloquently when he said, “Hold on, my friends, to the Constitution and the Republic for which it stands.  Miracles do not cluster and what has happened in 6000 years, may not happen again...”
As we come together for the Holiday Season – Hanukkah, Christmas and the New Year - may it be a warm celebration, as the holiday lights shine bright and serve as a beacon of freedom and a source of good to the entire world.

It is my hope and prayer that you have much to be thankful for as we prepare to welcome a New Year.  Josie, the kids and I wish you the very best and hope you have a wonderful time celebrating the holidays.

With gratitude and thankfulness,
Trent Franks

Chairman AZ Corporation Commission Susan Bitter-Smith Resigns

Susan Bitter Smith announced Thursday afternoon that she will resign from her seat on the Arizona Corporation Commission effective Jan. 4.
Image result for susan bitter smith arizona
The Attorney General's Office filed a petition in Supreme Court Dec. 1 seeking to remove Bitter Smith from office. The action argues that because Bitter Smith works as the head of the Southwest Cable Communications Association, the state's conflict-of-interest law prohibits her from serving as a regulator on the Arizona Corporation Commission.

The Corporation Commission oversees electric, water and telecommunications companies, among other duties such as regulating securities and overseeing railroad crossings.

On Wednesday, her attorney filed a response to the court action seeking to remove her from her job, stating she has no conflict of interest by also working as a cable television trade group leader.
Bitter Smith said at a news conference this afternoon that she still wants the case to be heard by the court. She spent several minutes disputing the Attorney General's Office petition to remove her before announcing that she was resigning her seat.

She said the court action and media attention on the controversy has been too much of a distraction both to her work at the commission and at the cable association. "I feel that this distraction will continue," she said. "The public deserves the full attention of the commission and its staff to the upcoming body of work facing the commission. Despite my great love for this job and pride in our successes, my overriding goal is to insure that the work of the people gets done with the appropriate attention it deserves." More AZ Central

Seriously? Maricopa Cpunty Republican Tyler Bowyer "A Trainer for Turning Point USA"

Seriously?
by Lisa Beightol Gray

The word RINO is thrown around like confetti at a party and as a general rule I don’t use it for various reasons. However, we all know what it means -- Republican In Name Only.
If our County Chairman is helping to grow and educate another political party, wouldn’t he be considered a Republican In Name Only -- RINO?
I received an email highlighting the fact that our County Chairman works for an organization called Turning Point USA
( http://tinyurl.com/zkrcqzc ). This organization claims to be non-partisan, but wait, isn’t the Maricopa County Chairman a Republican?
In May of THIS year, a conference advertised as LPEX (LIBERTARIAN POLITICAL EXPO) was held in Nevada. It was surprising to learn that our REPUBLICAN County Chairman was listed as a “TRAINER” at this expo.
So what exactly is LPEX? In a nutshell, according to their website, LPEX develops LIBERTARIAN leaders. ( http://lpex.org/about)
And why should people attend LPEX? Again, according to their website people should attend who want to “Shape the future of the Liberty movement,” AND “LPEX develops individuals into leaders so they can build effective libertarian organizations.”
Don’t believe me? Read it for yourself: http://lpex.org/about
Here’s a couple questions for the leaders of the Maricopa County GOP and my fellow Precinct Committeemen/women:
What party is the Republican Party County Chairman elected to lead? Obviously, it’s the REPUBLICAN party. So why is he TRAINING LIBERTARIANS?
I’m not aware of him holding any “training” for Republican PCs. In fact, while he was away training Libertarians, we were less than 60 days away from early ballots being mailed to Phoenix voters. Only a mere 20.81% of Phoenix voters showed up to vote! And this is TOTAL VOTERS, not GOP voters. What could have been accomplished if there was a more concerted effort by the county Chairman to get out the vote? Because of the lack of GOTV efforts by the county party, a liberal mayor was reelected and a MULTI-BILLION dollar, light rail expansion was passed.
So, are we going to look the other way, again, or do we want a REPUBLICAN Chairman leading us? Someone who would actually help to get REPUBLICANS elected. These actions are fully in opposition to all that the grassroots do and are doing to get conservative Republicans elected.
I believe the County Chairman needs to resign. This is a HUGE conflict of interest and it’s evident that he doesn’t have the best interest of our County Party at heart.
How exactly does helping members from another party get elected, align with our mission, platform and values?
Last December, was he one of the yes votes who voted to strip PCs of their voting rights and/or censure them for supporting a candidate in another party? If so, wouldn’t “training” members of another political party how to grow their influence and win elections be worthy of the same fate? Shouldn’t the County Chairman be held to a higher standard? Or does the County Chairman get to lead by the motto, “Do as I say, not as I do”?
Will others call for his resignation? I guess we’ll find out.

Save the date! Fundraising Reception for AZ Rep Kate Brophy McGee

Toys for Tots and AZGOP Need You for Holiday Toy Drive!

Join Chairman Robert Graham and the AZGOP to spread Christmas cheer this holiday season by donating to our Christmas Toy Drive.

We have teamed up with Toys for Tots and local leaders to help families throughout Arizona.

Christmas is a perfect time of the year to express our genuine love to God, family and friends. It’s also a great opportunity to give back to our communities and show we care about the residents and families of Arizona.

If you feel compelled and able to give, we know it will bless many families this Christmas.

Please drop off new, unwrapped toys at AZGOP headquarters (3501 N. 24th Street, Phoenix) no later than Monday, December 21st.

Thank you for your generosity and kindness during this special time of year!

Sincerely,
Robert Graham

Chairman

Maricopa County Republican Chair Tyler Bowyer:Disturbing Event that is Happening on Saturday in Mesa

I don't usually forward these kind of emails, but this is the real story of the disturbing event happening in Mesa on Saturday:

"On Saturday, please join the Guy who voted for Loretta Lynch, the Guy who voted for Medicaid Expansion, the Guy who is cow-towing to the LGBTQ lobby in Mesa, the Guy who abandoned his cityf to become a lobbyist and the Guy who coordinated with Leftist Randy Parraz to take out fellow Republicans..."

"To welcome the last big Presidential failure the RNC pushed for a special event in support of the Guy who recently voted to support Obama and put our National Debt over $20 Trillion." Tyler Bowyer
A J Lafaro says:
Every person featured is a RINO.  I'm surprised they didn't include Graham. I bet he's pissed.
If grassroots conservatives wanted to "Bag a RINO", this would be the place to be.
Emoji
T'is the season to once again remind ourselves and as many others as we can, that those who we put in office, "WORK FOR US AND WE DO NOT WORK FOR THEM".  That message didn't go down well when I had the very same conversation with several of them when I was state chair.  They obviously feel entitled and the reason they do is because , until recently they have never been told otherwise.

Fellow patriots,
It is unfortunate that the featured office-holders in attendance at this event have earned for themselves the scorn and consistently disappointed resentment of the voters whom they were elected to represent.  The chickens have come home to roost for them.
In recent years, the townhalls which brought their constituency face to face with them have dwindled and has even been met with distaste from some of these office-holders--seen as unimportant to their intentions in the legislative arena.  For some of them in the U.S. Senate, they even charged admission to their constituents to have the "privilege" of questioning them or listening to hear them speak.
The citizens have an inalienable right to peacefully express their sentiments, their opinions and their conclusions, and to exercise that right.  I encourage them in bringing their concerns to the public forum.

Mary Hamway: It's a different race this time

Mary Hamway
Thank you for your past support of my campaign for the Arizona House of Representatives in Legislative District 28. It was only through your friendship and past contributions that I was able to run a positive campaign that highlighted my many years of service to our community.

I feel that my experiences of serving on the Paradise Valley Town Council, representing our community's tourism interest on the Scottsdale Visitors and Convention Bureau and holding several positions for the LD28 GOP, continues to give me a unique opportunity to serve the voters of our district.

It's a different race this time, as the Democratic candidate has termed out, creating an open seat. It is important for the Republicans to take back this seat, and I feel that with my background I am the strongest candidate and offer the best chance.

That means that I need your support again. There are many ways to help including assisting me in gathering petition signatures, hosting an event in your home to meet your friends and neighbors and contributing to my campaign.

The end of the first campaign filing period is December 31st, and it would give my campaign a strong showing if you could make a contribution. I can only get my message out if I have the available funds to do so.

Any amount, large or small is helpful. You can make a secure donation online by going to my website www.maryhamway.com. If you would like to host an event or assist me in gathering petition signatures, please email me at mhamway@cox.net or call me at 602-315-4635. Any support is welcome and once again I appreciate your friendship.

With gratitude,

Mary Hamway

Also asking for cash donations for "Operation Enduring Gratitude” – an organization that helps veterans build a wheelchair ramp or gift cards for groceries or home repairs. ·       AZGOP Chairman Robert Graham, the executive board and elected officers have invited the Maricopa County Republican precinct committeemen, their family and friends to a free pancake breakfast at GOP headquarters, 3501 N. 24th St., Phx. between 8:30-11:30 am, Sat. Dec 5. No RSVP required.

·       The Clash Of The AZGOP and AzRA Events for Saturday morning, Dec 5 will be interesting.  Will AzRA members who are Maricopa County PCs end up at the AzRA Christmas party/state membership meeting or at the AZGOP free pancake breakfast.

·       Will AZGOP Chairman Robert Grahams’ pancake breakfast for Maricopa County precinct committeemen (PCs) become a recruitment party for PCs to sign up for the committee that the AZGOP is reportedly developing to derail both of the “Anyone ButJohn McCain” resolutions that are proposed for the Jan 16, 2016 Maricopa County GOP  and the Jan 23, 2016 AZGOP mandatory meetings. Reports are surfacing that the top guns at the AZGOP head shed are very quietly recruiting a list  of John McCain supporters from PCs leaders in an effort to form a committee to fight the “Anyone But John McCain” resolutions that came to light shortly  before Thanksgiving.

·       Maricopa County Grassroots PCs wishing to help co-sponsor the “Anyone But John McCain” resolution that has been submitted  to the MCRC Resolutions Committee for consideration during the Jan 16, 2016 Maricopa County Republican Mandatory meeting should email calconserve@gmail.com ASAP with their name, precinct, and email address, to receive a copy of the proposed MCRC resolution for review.  Over 100 MCRC PCs have already signed up to co-sponsor the resolution. See full storyhttp://archives.mcrcbriefs.org/2015/12/11-30-15-briefs.html

·       As You May Recall, former Maricopa County Chairman AJ LaFaro submitted a “Anyone But John McCain” Resolution to the AZGOP just prior to Thanksgiving for consideration by state committeemen at the  Jan. 23 AZGOP State mandatory meeting.  A separate (but similar) resolution, carrying over 100 precinct committeemen signatures,  has since been submitted to the Maricopa County Republican Resolution Committee for inclusions on the Jan. 16 agenda for the MCRC precinct committeemen’s MCRC Mandatory meeting.

·       AZGOP Executive Director Chad Heywood said the AZGOP resolution committee would review LaFaro’s resolution, but Heywood’s annoyance was abundantly clear in his uncomplimentary comments about LaFaro to the Arizona Republic.  The 2014 “No Confidence” Resolution that passed overwhelmingly at both the Maricopa County and the AZGOP Mandatory meetings in 2014 were passed under LaFaro’s term a MCRC Chair. Passage of the “No Confidence” resolutions drew national publicity.  In retaliation, McCain’s camp reported attempted to cleanse conservative precinct committee and district chairs from leadership roles throughout  2014 and 2015.
