The
principles of being good neighbors as countries are the same principles as
neighbors on a street.

If someone wants to visit or stay a while,
they call ahead, arrive at the front door, we meet them at the front door, and
welcome them in with open arms. They don’t hop the fence, sneak into the garage
and live out of the freezer.
Time
and time again, Arizona has suffered from our federal government’s inaction
related to illegal immigration. Now, President Obama is requesting a $3.7
billion bailout to fix a problem exacerbated by his
inaction.
First
and foremost, the federal government must act to secure the border.
Secondly,
we MUST streamline the process of legal immigration.
As
Senate President, I led the charge to pass immigration legislation that would
have put our state in a better position to deal with border security today. The
bill would have invested millions for high-tech radar detection systems,
interdiction efforts, detention facilities and an allocation for the National
Guard to enhance border security. It was incomprehensible that Governor
Napolitano vetoed the bill at the time.
Illegal
immigration impacts Arizona every day, and the time for excuses and posturing
has long since passed. As Governor, I will push for additional resources for
DPS and our National Guard to support federal law enforcement officials along
the border.
The
border can and will be secured. And we’ll do it without breaking the bank, or
waiting for the federal government.
