Citizens Against Government Waste has been fighting against pork for 30 years. They take aim at big spenders in Congress, whether they are Republicans or Democrats. Profligate members of both parties dread the annual release of CAGW's Pig Book, where they highlight some of the worst and most wasteful spending in government.
But Citizens Against Government Waste doesn't just shame the big spenders in Congress - they also compile annual ratings to honor members of Congress who have stood up against wasteful government spending. I'm proud to have once again earned a 100% rating from CAGW, receiving their coveted "Taxpayer Superhero" award.
Here's what CAGW President Tom Schatz had to say: "Senator Flake has demonstrated a commitment to the taxpayers that is unprecedented in the 25 years that the Council for Citizens Against Government Waste has issued its annual congressional ratings. His perfect score in the House, followed by the same score in the Senate is an amazing achievement. From the first time that he offered an amendment on the floor of the House to eliminate an earmark to his impeccable voting record in 2013 in the Senate to cut spending and prevent tax increases, Senator Flake has led the battle against the big spenders and fought to protect every American's fiscal interests. On behalf of the Council for Citizens Against Government Waste's 1.3 million members and supporters, especially the 51,800 in Arizona, I offer him my heartiest congratulations."
It's great to receive CAGW's recognition, but it's even better to represent Arizona taxpayers' interests in the Senate. Your support and trust makes it easy to stand up to the big spenders and put our country's fiscal future ahead of special interests. Thank you, and please keep up the pressure on D.C.
