TODAY IS THE LAST DAY TO MAIL IN EARLY BALLOTS

The end is in sight! In less than a week, Arizona will elect new leaders to guide the state forward over the next four years; and we can say goodbye to nasty TV commercials, political sign litter, and campaign fundraising emails!  It has been a long, amazing journey and I am extremely grateful for the generosity and support everyone has offered.

Today is the last day to return your early ballot by mail.  If you cannot get to a mailbox today, you can drop your early ballot off at any polling location in the county on November 4th.

If you're just dying to watch another political ad, please watch my final campaign commercial of the election cycle (I promise it isn’t negative). As always, it is greatly appreciated if you could share the commercial with friends, family and neighbors.

Thank you all so much for everything you’ve done. I hope to have earned your trust and your vote on November 4th.

With tremendous appreciation,
Michele

Strong start to the week

Today, I received the endorsement of Maricopa County Attorney Bill Montgomery.  Bill has a long distinguished career as an Arizona prosecutor and is a well-respected public servant.  I am honored to have his support.

“I had the privilege of working with State Senator Michele Reagan on efforts to reform Arizona’s Election, Petition and Campaign Finance Reporting statutes this past session of the Legislature.  Sharing my experience from various investigations conducted by the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office, Senator Reagan applied her energy and intellect in fashioning a reform package that put the principles of fairness, integrity, and transparency front and center for Arizona voters.  Given the realities of the legislative process, not all reforms made it in the first try and the original bill had a very different look when finalized.  Nevertheless, Senator Reagan’s commitment to moving Arizona forward was on display throughout and has been a core aspect to her campaign for Secretary of State.

Sadly, Senator Reagan’s opponent for Secretary of State, a three-time loser for Governor, will do and say anything in pursuit of a Statewide Office.  Instead of the fairness and impartiality I have seen firsthand in how Senator Reagan conducts herself in service to the public, her opponent’s tactics rely on divisiveness and stereotypes.  This reveals a disturbing willingness to go to the darkest places in smear campaigning.  We can’t have that in the State’s Chief Election Officer.  I ask you to join me in supporting Michele Reagan for Secretary of State.”
- Bill Montgomery, Maricopa County Attorney

We are in the final stretches of the campaign.  We continue to gain ground on our opponent but this race will go down to the wire.  Any contribution you can make to the campaign will be extraordinarily helpful in carrying us to victory.  Please consider a contribution of $50, $100 or $200 to my campaign so we can send Terry Goddard packing once and for all.

Sincerely,

Michele

Do you really want more big government?

It’s interesting to note my opponent, who has been critical of every election bill I’ve introduced, has released a dark money elimination plan that has a strikingly similar foundation to the very legislation I introduced this year – SB1403.

Terry Goddard’s plan to expand disclosure of “major funders” and “doing business” in Arizona as a non-profit corporation were included in SB1403, which received unanimous support in the Senate Elections Committee that I chaired.  They say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, so I appreciate the acknowledgement from Terry.

Unfortunately, those are where the similarities end. Terry is just another liberal candidate trying to dupe the public by promising things he cannot deliver.  His “bright line trigger” mandates any ad “mentioning any person” appearing on the ballot, will be subject to disclosure and registration requirements.  The U.S. Supreme Court in Wisconsin's Right to Life ruled a blanket disclosure requirement for mentioning a candidate is unconstitutional.  He is simply wrong.

However, the most alarming provision is the “random” auditing of 10 – 20% of non-profit corporations participating in express advocacy by the Department of Revenue.  As Terry always believes, bigger government and higher taxes can fix anything.  Additional government bureaucracy is rarely the solution.

He claims mandatory government interference in the business dealings of non-profit corporations will help stop the flow of dark money.  And this is based on the far-fetched belief the Department of Revenue will remain completely non-partisan, despite which gubernatorial administration is overseeing it.  The IRS was thought to be the most impartial of all agencies until it was revealed they were targeting conservative groups seeking to attain non-profit status.  Terry wants to do the same in Arizona.

We cannot allow Terry to repeat the discriminatory practices of the IRS in Arizona.

Terry's plan attempts to consolidate power in the Secretary of State’s office so he can play judge, jury and executioner with every entity that becomes involved in Arizona elections.

Instead of seeking massive expansion of regulation and government overreach, I will focus on realistic laws for all corporate political spending.

Next week, I will release a comprehensive plan on how my administration will fix the challenges facing the Secretary of State’s office.  It will center on streamlining processes and making the office run more efficiently.  It will be substantive and address multiple issues that need reform, not just a politically expedient one.

Sincerely,

Michele

Current SOS Ken Bennett and Former Mayor Scott Smith Endorse my campaign

I am honored to announce two Primary gubernatorial candidates, Ken Bennett and Scott Smith, have endorsed my campaign for Secretary of State.  Both are principled and honorable elected officials who have demonstrated an ability to work through partisan gridlock to find workable, reasonable solutions for their constituents.  Arizona voters and leaders are rallying around my campaign as we continue to build on the momentum that carried us through the Primary election.

Sincerely,

“As I said along the campaign trail, experience matters.  With twelve years in the Arizona legislature, chairwoman of the Senate Elections and House Commerce committees, and a former small business owner, Michele Reagan has the right experience to become Arizona’s next Secretary of State.  She is qualified, dedicated and has a unique understanding of Arizona’s business and election law.  As your current Secretary of State, I am proud to endorse Michele Reagan for this position.”
- Arizona Secretary of State Ken Bennett

“I am proud to endorse Michele Reagan for Arizona Secretary of State. Michele is a proven reformer who has worked extensively on election issues during her tenure at the State Capitol.  If you believe open and honest elections are in Arizona’s best interests, then I encourage you to join me in supporting the most qualified candidate for Arizona Secretary of State, Michele Reagan.”

It's Already Begun

First of all, thank you for your support in the Primary election.  We wouldn’t be where we are today without people like you.  It has been nine days since we clinched the Republican nomination and my Democrat opponent has been on a warpath attacking me every day.

Why?

Because he recognizes he is already behind.  We cannot let him close the gap through these negative actions.  I need to raise $5,000 today to strengthen our lead.  Our positive brand of campaigning worked in the Primary, and I am committed to run the same style of campaign in the General.  Arizonans can agree on one thing…it’s time to stop the dirty politics and focus on issues.

As Secretary of State, my number one priority will be to ensure public trust in our elections by eliminating voter fraud and increasing transparency.  I have a history of fighting corruption in our elections.  As the Senate Elections Committee Chairwoman, I introduced legislation to prohibit political operatives from committing voter fraud.  No other state allows this and it's time Arizona follows suit.  Any contribution amount will allow us to communicate to a wider audience.

Please join Team Reagan and help us win in November.  Early indications point to a tumultuous campaign and your help will be CRITICAL to our victory.  Arizona deserves an elected official who is passionate about the Secretary of State’s duties, and I am that person.

Sincerely,

Michele

The Honorable Betsey Bayless Endorsed My Campaign

I’m honored to announce another Arizona female political icon has endorsed my campaign for Arizona Secretary of State.  The Honorable Betsey Bayless has deep Arizona roots and a career that spans over forty years in public service.  Her distinguished career includes serving as assistant director of the Board of Regents, the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors and as the Secretary of State.  Her leadership and connection to Arizona have left a lasting legacy for Arizona women to follow and I am excited to have her support.

“As a former Arizona Secretary of State, I can confidently say Michele Reagan is the one candidate who has a firm understanding of the duties of the Secretary’s office.  That has been evidenced in the bills she has championed to make the office run more effectively, efficiently and reliably.  Michele has also worked with County Election Offices throughout Arizona to learn what can be done to improve our election process.  I have known Michele for many years; her determination and strong character make her the perfect fit to be the next Secretary of State.”

Small Businesses are People Too

We’ve all heard politicians talk about small businesses being the “lifeblood” or “backbone” of our economy, but are they really aware of the value these small businesses provide?

As a former small business owner, I know firsthand the true value these businesses bring to our economy. Small businesses employee half of our country’s workforce and are responsible for producing two out of every three new jobs for the American people.

Throughout my entire time in public service I have prioritized the needs of small business.  I’ve worked relentlessly to keep government involvement to a minimum and to provide a stage for these small businesses to thrive.  I have introduced and supported legislation that cut bureaucratic red tape, eliminated burdensome regulations, streamlined government operations and implemented free-market principles that strengthened our economy.

My commitment to small business is unwavering.  I’m proud to have earned multiple awards and endorsements from the small business community:

Award from the National Federation of Independent Business

Award from the Arizona Small Business Association

Award from the National Association of Women Business Owners

To see a full list of awards, go here http://www.votereagan.com/index.php/awards/

As Secretary of State, I will continue to be an advocate for small business.  One important responsibility of the Secretary of State’s Office is managing the lengthy business filing process.  My office will ensure small businesses get the same treatment as large corporations.

Sincerely,

Michele
