Michelle Reagan on Accepting Free
Tickets:
"Who
the heck would do that?"
-Michelle Reagan, Arizona
Republic, April 9, 2014
Answer: Michelle Reagan
(Mesa, AZ) In a
story in yesterday's Arizona Republic, State Senator Michelle Reagan
was quoted as saying,"who the heck would do that" when she received tickets to a
Diamondbacks game. The answer, according to the Secretary of State disclosure
records, is Michelle Reagan. In fact, over the last 4 years while serving in the
State Senate, Michelle Reagan has taken thousands of dollars in free trips and
tickets to sporting events. Among the gifts that Reagan has accepted
are:
• Three all expense paid
trips to Aspen
• An all expense paid trip
to New Orleans
• A trip to
Turkey
• An all expense paid junket
to a college football game courtesy of the Fiesta Bowl
• Free tickets to the
Phoenix Open
“While it’s admirable
that Michelle Reagan is attempting to ban certain gifts to legislators, actions
speak louder than words. And Michelle’s long and extensive record of taking
thousands of dollars in freebies as a legislator tells a different story than
the one she is telling voters today,” said Chris Baker, spokesman for the Cardon
for Secretary of State campaign.
Wil Cardon supports a
complete ban of gifts to elected officials and has pledged to not take any gifts
from special interests as Secretary of State.
“If Michelle is
serious about her newfound position of opposing gifts to legislators, she can
start by joining Wil Cardon in pledging not to take any gift from special
interests if she is elected to Secretary of State, " continued Baker. She should
also refund the costs of the multitude of trips and tickets that she has taken
during her time in the State Legislature.”
