Polk wants Horne to
return approximately $400,000 in illegal contributions. She believes it is “more
than probable” that Mr. Horne illegally acted during his 2010 campaign based on
the evidence. Maricopa County Attorney Bill Montgomery also came to the same
conclusion as Polk last year.
The announcement
comes on the heels of another
scandal that broke last week where a former employee of Tom Horne’s recently
quit her position after accusing the attorney general of illegally conducting
campaign activities out of the Attorney General’s office. The former employee
claims Tom Horne encouraged and requested taxpayer-funded government employees
to do campaign work on state time. If true, this is a blatantly illegal abuse of
government resources.
Since my campaign
began, I have consistently emphasized the importance of integrity and character
in our Attorney General. Integrity was summed up by C.S. Lewis as doing the
right thing, even when no one was watching.
Tom Horne has
consistently demonstrated that he continues to fail to live up to the
expectations for a public official--especially our Attorney General. He
continues to get headlines for the wrong reasons on a consistent basis, costing
taxpayers not only money, but compromising our values and our stateʼs
reputation.
I pledge to you
that I will never embarrass you or our state. I will get headlines for the right
reasons. I am the only Republican candidate who can win the race this November,
and I need your help.
Help us get our
message out and help us restore integrity to the Office of the Attorney
General.
