FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
After Shinseki Resignation, It’s Time For Tough Questions and Answers
Office of Inspector General has conducted 18 reports on the VA over the last eight years.

In a statement released by Ann Kirkpatrick yesterday, she acknowledged that, “in the last eight years, there have been 18 Inspector General reports pointing to these systemic problems.” Kirkpatrick is Arizona’s only member of the House Committee on Veterans Affairs and is the Ranking Member of its Oversight and Investigations Subcommittee.

“General Shinseki’s resignation is a good first step to fixing our broken VA system, but it does not absolve President Obama, Ann Kirkpatrick or Washington politicians on both sides of the aisle from their responsibility to fix this mess. It’s time that we start asking tough questions of members of our House Veterans Affairs Committee,” said Tobin. “Ann Kirkpatrick acknowledges that the Office of the Inspector General has conducted 18 reports on the problems at the VA over the past eight years. When did she discover that the non-existent waiting lists were putting our veterans at risk? When was she planning on doing something about it? It is her duty as ranking member of the Veterans Affairs Oversight and Investigation Subcommittee to demand accountability and action at the first sign of trouble, not after our veterans have been tragically waiting for care that never came. It’s time for answers.”
